James "Fisher" Albert Smith

James Albert Smith “Fisher”, of 76 years, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, December 27, 2021. James was born on February 5, 1945 in Spartanburg, South Carolina to JD Smith and Lillian Ferol Ochiltree. Followed by Maggie Griffith Smith along with three brothers and one sister. In his late teens he moved to Clay County, Florida where he lived the rest of his life. He was initially employed by Burlington Mills, Johns Manville, and Jim Walter Homes, then became self-employed as facilities of (Jack of All Trades). Fisher was well known to his customers and friends for his attention to detail and producing high quality work. He had many loyal customers and friends. One of Fisher’s favorite activities was to participate in the Clay County Fair. There he would exhibit his prize-winning chickens and eventually he became the assistant superintendent of the fair’s poultry barn. He also became a 4-H leader and advised his grandson Joshua, Blake and his son Jacob on raising swine to show at the fair. Fisher Smith also enjoyed shrimping, flounder giggin, and of course fishing. He loved camping for days at a time. His craft hobbies included Christmas tree making, basket weaving and knife making. He loved traveling back to the Carolinas to visit his family. Fisher loved the gathering of friends and family, The Lord and his word.

Fisher was preceded in death by his mother and father along with his brothers, Robert (Hoppy) Smith, Terry Thaleus Smith, John Dean Smith, and his sister, Patricia Gail (Susie) Smith.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Melanie Joyce Brown-Smith; sons, Jacob Roscoe Smith and Terry Micheal Holm; he is also survived by his son, James Clay Smith and his daughter, Misty Leann Smith from his previous marriage to Deloris Ann Hilton; brother, David Carwell Smith; three grandchildren, James Cochran, Blake Richardson, and Joshua Mays; and many loving nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, Monday, January 3, 2022 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel.  Memorial services will be held at 1:00pm, Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at Hickory Grove Baptist Church with Reverends Russell Franklin and David Baker officiating.
