Joan Campbell Hubal

Joan Campbell Hubal, 81, of Orange Park, Florida passed away on July 12, 2022. She was born on December 26, 1940, in Lewiston, Maine to Philip G. and Margaret S. Campbell.

Joan grew up in a small town in Maine and attended Lewiston High School. After high school she married George Robert Hubal on April 11, 1959.  They relocated to Virginia Beach, VA and then to Orange Park, FL when George was transferred within the United States Navy. Joan later attended and graduated from Florida Junior College where she pursued a degree in nursing. She worked as a registered nurse for over 37 years, first at St. Vincent’s Medical Center and then at Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville, where she retired.

Joan loved her family and friends. She enjoyed sewing, entertaining, and giving back to others.  Joan was an active member of her faith community at both St. Luke’s Catholic Church and Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Most notably, Joan directed the Clay County Free Medical Clinic for almost a decade in the early 2000s. Her friendly and outgoing personality will greatly be missed by all.

Joan in preceded in death by her husband, George Robert Hubal; father, Philip G. Campbell; mother, Margaret S. Campbell; brothers, John F. Campbell, Philip Campbell, and Jerome Campbell; sister, Mary P. Campbell; and daughter Theresa A. Hubal.

Joan is survived by her daughters, Mary-Margaret Hubal Serfilippi (Gerard) and Catherine Hubal Nation; brother, Richard Campbell (Cindy); sister-in-law, Pauline Campbell; grandchildren. Justin D. Nation, Ceara S. Nation, and Mary Catherine Serfilippi Smith (Daniel); great grandchildren Avery A. Terrell and Jude A. Smith; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

A Requiem Mass and interment will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fleming Island, Florida at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, with a reception to follow in Sullivan Hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to St. Jude’s Research Children’s Hospital.
