Joan Irene Newman

Joan Irene Newman, age 89, peacefully went home to be with the Lord, December 14, 2018.  She was born November 04, 1929, and was a lifelong resident of Jacksonville, Florida.   Joan attended Kirby Smith Jr. High and Andrew Jackson High School.  She was a member of Evangel Temple Assembly of God for many years.   Prior to that, she was a member of Bethel Temple Assembly of God, serving as a Sunday School Teacher and Missionettes Leader.  She served on the Woman's Missionary Council, both at the district and sectional level.   She loved music and sang in the church choir.  

Joan was a devoted wife and loving stay at home mother.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, playing golf and going to Gator games.  Her cooking skills were unsurpassed.   She had a heart of gold, always giving and never taking.  She was one in a million!   Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Scott and Myrtle Long, and grandson, Joshua Duckworth. 

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Dolphus Newman; 5 children:  Al (Margaret) Duckworth, Debra (DeWayne) Igou, Gary (Pamela) Bailey, Charles (Angie) Newman, and Donald (Theresa) Newman; eight loving grandchildren and seven precious great-grandchildren. 

The celebration of her life will be Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at 12:00 (noon) at Evangel Temple Assembly of God, 5755 Ramona Blvd., Jacksonville.  The graveside service will be immediately following at Riverside Memorial Park, 7242 Normandy Blvd.   Services will be officiated by Pastor Garry Wiggins.   The Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, at 11:00 a.m.

The Family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Penney Retirement Community for their love and care.  Joan especially enjoyed the daily visits from her husband, and those from her dear friend and caregiver, Geraldine Manning.   

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Evangel Temple Assembly of God Building Fund.
