Joan Marie (Barnes) Wohlfarth of Fleming Island, Florida, died Monday, July 6, 2020, at home, surrounded by her loving family. Born to father, William John Barnes and mother, Marie Howe (Caffrey) Barnes on January 31, 1933 in Mount Carmel Pennsylvania, she was one of thirteen children. Joan was a graduate of Polyclinic Hospital School of Nursing in 1954 and married her “Sweet Boy,” Frederick L. Wohlfarth, III. in 1956. They were happily married for 61 years. A faithful Catholic, feisty Democrat, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother (“Oma”), Godmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, she was proud of her life and legacy. Her career as a Registered Nurse was fulfilling and she was pleased that her daughter, Heidi, followed her into the honored profession. Joan will be remembered as a spirited, kind and generous lady.
She is preceded in death by father, William J. Barnes; mother, Marie Howe Barnes; brothers, Edward Barnes, Eugene Barnes, William Barnes, James Barnes, Kenneth Barnes, Hubert Barnes and Donald Barnes; sisters, Evelyn Latsha, Ruth Barnes, Mary McPeak, and Florence Carr.
She is survived by daughter, Heideliese (“Heidi”) M. Wohlfarth; granddaughters, Jessica L. Nagy (Jules Nagy, III.), Victoria M. Stainton (Ian S. Stainton); great-grandchildren, Juliana G. Nagy, Josephine C. Nagy, Jackson R. Stainton and Emma J. Stainton; brother, Robert Barnes (Heideliese Barnes); many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her beloved Yorkie, “Lili.”
A graveside service will be held at 3:00pm, Saturday, July 11, 2020 at Magnolia Cemetery,1040 Kingsley Avenue, Orange Park, FL. 32073, with Fr. Donal Sullivan of Sacred Heart Catholic Church as Celebrant.
