John Walter Jackson of Keystone Heights Florida who was 90yrs young passed away peacefully on May 5, 2023. John was born in Endicott NY, on June 1, 1932 to parents Walter and Marion Jackson. He grew up in Cincinnatus NY, until enlisting in the United States Army. John served in the Korean War and returned to marry his wife Esther Beach Jackson July 1, 1956. For many years John was an Operation Manager with GTE of the North & Southeast. After his retirement he established E. & J. Telecommunications, an independent business with his wife Esther. Eventually they retired to their home on Hyco Lake, NC, and finally to Keystone Heights Florida. John was an active member of the AMVET Post 86 in Keystone Heights Florida. He enjoyed Lake time with family, boating, fishing, and time at the beach. He also loved to dance with his wife Esther and chasing his grandchildren around playing Choo- Choo train and Hide and Seek. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather “Papa”, and a much-loved curmudgeon, by his dear friends from the AMVETS & American Legion. Family recalls his favorite & frequent expression “That’s Lovely – Just Lovely”. John was predeceased by his wife Esther Beach Jackson “MaMa”, his parents Walter and Marion Brainard Jackson, several siblings, and granddaughter Crystal. Shortly after Esther passed, John adopted a black lab he named NiNi. She became his constant and most loving companion. She’s found a new home in Keystone Heights where she will be well cared for. John is survived by his son Gerald Jackson (Maya), daughters Kathy Cameron (David), Susan Hall (Mike), 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. A private family memorial service and celebration of life is planned for the near future. John’s final resting place will be next to his wife Esther at the Jacksonville National Cemetery.
