John Douglas (Doug) McPeak, 69, of Fleming Island, FL passed away, Tuesday, August 27th 2024. He was born on May 17, 1955 in Orange Park, FL to parents William Columbus McPeak of Danville, VA and Cora Belle (Strickland) McPeak of Starke, FL. 

John graduated from Clay High School in 1974 and went into the Army in 1974 he was a paratrooper. He was honorably discharged in 1978 serving one 4-year term. After the Army he worked an array of different welding and fabrication jobs. He worked in Oklahoma, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas. He welded on the oil rigs off the Texas coast. He also was a welder working on tugboat’s towing cargo from Jacksonville to Puerto Rico and other surrounding islands. He was also a commercial fisherman in the 1980s out of Mayport. He worked as a welder / fabricator at Luhrs Boat Builders in the late 1980s through the 1990s.

John married Faye Elizabeth Stone in 1992. Sean Douglas McPeak was Born May 1st 1995, Brandon Hutson McPeak was born November 3 1997 and Faye Stone McPeak passed away January 15, 2015

John loved the outdoors since he was born fishing, hunting, roaming the woods, running the riverbanks, boating, going to the beach, camping, traveling, mountain climbing, etc. His family was always his number one priority. John loved being on the water with his family. His daily companion was “Wiley” his German Shepherd.

John will be remembered as a loving father, noble person, a mentor, loved by all family and friends, he would help anyone in need, he was always a shoulder to lean on or just listen to what you had to say. Truly one of a kind. 

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 14, 2024 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel.
