John Martin Romero

May 9, 1952 — November 1, 2023

John Martin Romero, aged 71, passed away on November 1, 2023, in Jacksonville, Florida. He was born on May 9, 1952, in Brooklyn, New York, to his parents John and Lucy Romero.

Johnny's journey in life was marked by dedication and service. He graduated from Chelsea Vocational High School in New York, New York, and went on to serve as an officer in the New York Police Department. He later retired from the United States Marine Corps as a correctional officer at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Johnny was a loving husband to Peggy Romero, and together they were active members of Crosspointe Church in Fleming Island, Florida. In his leisure time, Johnny had a passion for a variety of interests. He enjoyed fishing, singing, and karaoke, which allowed him to share his joyful spirit with those around him. He loved to cook and took pleasure in preparing delicious meals for his loved ones. John enjoyed watching sports, especially the Florida Gators and Jacksonville Jaguars.

Johnny will be remembered for his jovial personality, big smile, loving nature, and strong faith. He never met a stranger and made a lasting impression on everyone he met. John cherished his family and friends. He was always there to lend a helping hand. He took great pride in his Puerto Rican heritage, his time spent with the NYPD, and he was very proud of being a Marine. John loved listening to and performing music. He had a beautiful voice. He shared his voice each Sunday as a member of the Crosspointe Church Praise and Worship Team.

Johnny faced a difficult journey but never complained. His faith was strong until the very end. He gave it his all and fought a good fight. We know he is singing and rejoicing in heaven, but he will be forever loved and missed by those he leaves behind.

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, John Romero Jr. and Lucy Romero. He is survived by his devoted wife, Peggy Romero, and their children: Billy, Scott, Teresa, Anthony, John, Philip, Brenda, Karen, Michael, and their spouses. He is also survived by his siblings: George, Hector, Joanne, Rosemarie, Nedia, Joseph, Laura, Michelle, and their spouses. Johnny's legacy extended to his 22 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Johnny's life was one of commitment, love, and enthusiasm. He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, and his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
