John Charles Tucker, born on March 15, 1968, in East Chicago, Indiana, passed away on March 19, 2024, in St. Augustine, Florida. He was the beloved son of Robert Tucker Jr and Loretta Tucker. John was preceded in death by his grandparents Ira Roberts, Catherine Roberts, Robert Tucker Sr, and Imogene Thomas. John was a dedicated member of the community and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love and service. After graduating from Morton Senior High School, John enlisted into the Marine Corps in 1987 and served his country for six years with honor, achieving the rank of corporal before being honorably discharged. Following his military service, John pursued a career in law enforcement for Hammond Police Department and contributed to his family's bowling alley, Hobart Lanes. After settling in Florida, John sought out a career in the insurance industry, pioneering Tucker Insurance Agency and, most recently, has also been serving as an office manager at Liberty Tax. Beyond his extensive professional accomplishments, John was a pillar of the community. He dedicated his time and efforts to various organizations, most notably the Boy Scouts of the North Florida Council. He always went above and beyond to support the youth, including running the climbing tower and cooking endless hours at Camp Shands. John was a member of the Order of the Arrow as an Eagle Scout and received multiple awards for his unwavering dedication. John's kindness knew no bounds. He was known for his generosity and willingness to lend a helping hand to those in need. For over 20 years, he would assist Leon Green in making pork for the Cattleman's Association at the fair, embodying the spirit of community and selflessness. John is survived by his parents, Robert and Loretta Tucker, his sister, Angela Tucker (James Raber), his children, Ashley Werno (Ryan), Rochelle Fortney (James), Jacob Carter-Tucker, and Nathan Tucker, as well as his grandchildren, Austin, Catherine, James, Sawyer, Karina, and Gracelynn, and his nieces, Madison and Alexis Griffith as well as Paula Tucker, the mother of his children. To honor and celebrate John's life, a service will be held at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm until service time in the chapel. John's memory will live on in the hearts of all who were touched by his kindness, dedication, and unwavering spirit of service. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his family, friends, and the community he so passionately served.
