Thelma Larson Meigs, 93, of Green Cove Springs, Florida, passed away on October 7, 2023.
Thelma was born to parents Alice Johnson Larson and Carl Helmer Larson on March 6, 1930 in Rutland, Vermont. She graduated from Rutland High School and Castleton University where Thelma received her degree in education. Thelma loved her family dearly. She also loved meeting people and conversing with all she met. Thelma had a passion for gardening, music, playing piano, education, and teaching. In her early career she owned and ran a preschool in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Thelma spent over 40 years as a public and private school teacher and spent most of her career in the Clay County School System where she retired from in 1995.
Return Jonathan Meigs, Sr., 88, of Green Cove Springs, Florida, passed away on October 14, 2023.
Jon was born to parents Doris Beard Meigs and Robert Brander Meigs on August 16, 1935 in Ithaca, New York. Jon attended Ithaca High School and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical Institute where he received his certification in Aeronautical Drafting Technology. Jon served four years in the United States Air Force as an aircraft engineering mechanic and worked for Pan Am Airlines, Eastern Airlines, Burroughs, and Chevrolet. Beyond the love for his family, Jon had a love for his country, vintage aircraft, and classic cars. He loved car racing and had a hobby of race car driving in his early years. He was also a member of several local Porsche car chapters and was one of the founders of a local Porsche 356 Club in Jacksonville, Florida. He spent many years and the remainder of his career as a local avid Porsche and VW car mechanic. Jon retired in Orange Park when he closed his local mechanic business, Auto Platz.
Jon and Thelma were married in Dania, Florida in February of 1964 and celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary this year. Both were dedicated, loving, and caring parents and grandparents who are now survived by their son, Jonathan Meigs, Jr. (Rachel), daughter, Allison Myers (Shane), and grandchildren, Olivia, Hannah, Ethan, and Liam.
Local service will be held for Jon and Thelma in the Broadus-Raines Chapel on Friday, November 17, 2023 at 11am with Dr. Tim McDaniel officiating. Graveside military honors will be held later that day at the Jacksonville National Cemetery at 2pm.
Additionally, a mass will be held in honor of Jon and Thelma on Nov 1, 2022 at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church at 5:30pm in Fair Haven, Vermont.
