Joyce Elisabeth Ridner

May 7, 1956 — June 5, 2022

Joyce Elisabeth Ridner, 66, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2022 after a 22 month fight with stage 3 multiple myeloma and extraordinary health struggles.

Joyce was born at the Fort Benjamin Harrison Army Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana to the proud parents of Gene and Silvaleen Ridner, who preceded her in death.  She was honored to be an Army brat, living in Germany, Maryland, Alaska and Georgia.  Joyce lived in Duval and Clay Counties for all her adult life.  Upon graduation from Fletcher High School where she played the flute in the marching band, she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Literature-Communications from the University of North Florida.  After working at WAWS-TV as a video editor, Joyce spent the majority of her career as a human resources professional.  She earned a Master Gardener certification and thoroughly enjoyed learning about and working with all types of plants.  Joyce loved spending time with pets, family and friends, and of course, curling up with a good book!  She is survived by her sister, Janie McAvoy; brother, Jon Ridner (Dee Harmon); niece, Kelly McAvoy (Jobe Makar); three nephews, Tommy McAvoy, Zachary Ridner and Mackenzie Ridner; and great niece, Kyrie Makar.  A celebration of Joyce’s life will be held with family and friends at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, for those who would like to honor Joyce’s life, please donate to Clay County Animal Services in Green Cove Springs, Florida where she volunteered. https://www.claycountygov.com/community/animal-services/get-involved/donate
