Judith Ann Magruder Welles, age 79, of Keystone Heights, FL passed away peacefully December 1, 2022 at her daughters home following a long illness. She was born in October of 1943 in Berlin, Georgia to Archie P. Magruder and Mable Claire Rogers. Growing up on the Westside of Jacksonville, she was the oldest of 4 children, two brothers, David T. (Sandi) Magruder (d), Michael Magruder and a sister Sharon Magruder.
She eloped and married the love of her life, James William (Butch) Welles, in January of 1960. Together they had 3 children, Denise Marie, James William and Shawn Edward.
A devoted wife and mother, Judy had a vivacious personality and always made people around her laugh. She made friends everywhere she went and will be missed by all who knew her. She loved to cook and care for people, no one left her house hungry. However, gardening was her passion. She was never happier than elbow deep in potting soil and watching her flowers and vegetables grow.
She is pre-deceased by her parents Archie and Mable Magruder, her loving husband, James “Butch” Welles, her oldest son James William (Deanna) Welles, her grandson, James Dean Welles and her brother David T. Magruder.
She is survived by her brother Michael Magruder, sister Sharon Magruder, sister in love Sandi Magruder, daughter Denise Marie (Dale) Cercy, youngest son Shawn Edward (Jane) Welles. Grandchildren: Ronald Dale (Adrienne) Cercy Jr., Lonnie “Chris” (Ashley) Cercy, Joseph William (Lacey) Cercy, Ginger Marie Welles, eight great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate her life in the Broadus-Raines Chapel on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at 3 p.m.
