On Wednesday, August 9, 2023, Julia Lanelle Barnes (Dixon), (80), mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, peacefully passed away while holding hands with her daughter, Cindy and close family friend, Aaron. While Cindy and Aaron sang “Amazing Grace”, Julia took her last breath and drifted into the loving arms of our Lord and savior, Jesus Christ.
Julia aka Ms. Judy was born on Wednesday, November 11, 1942, to Will and Maime Dixon in Bainbridge, Georgia.
The most memorable job she had was working as an administrative assistant at Jefferson Davis middle school on the west side in Jacksonville, Florida. She was employed by Duval County schools for many years. She made a positive impression on many students, staff, and parents.
Julia was a BIG fan of Elvis Presley, the King of Rock and Roll. Over the years, she had collected a wide variety of Elvis memorabilia. One of her most cherished memories was when she travelled to Memphis, Tennessee to spend a week at Graceland.
Julia spent her days with the love of her life, her fur baby, Lela. Lela was her loyal and loving companion. They were two peas in a pod. They sat on the couch while having a meal together and watching game show network. They would go outside to sit on the front porch and people watch. Probably their favorite pastime together.
Julia Lanelle Barnes (Dixon) is preceded in death by her parents, Will and Maime Dixon. Her ex-husband of twenty-five years, William E. Barnes, and two of her children, Linda, and Tony Shaw. And her best friend, Del Rhodes.
She is survived by her fur baby, Lela. Daughter, Cindy Jackson (Kenny Holder). Son, Scott Barnes (Ivey Poppell). Granddaughters, Nikki Jackson (Daniel Adgate) and Sierra Jackson (Joshua Fancy, Sr.) Grandson, Kyle Jackson (Starr Nolan). Great-grandchildren, Eric, Lance, and Jj. In addition to one on the way in January.
She is also remembered by close family friends, Rochelle, Aaron, David, Hobert and April and their kids and grandchildren.
