June Anne Rogers

July 28, 1938 — November 13, 2018

June Anne (Myslivy) Rogers, 80, passed away the afternoon of Tuesday, November 13, 2018.  Anyone who knew June knows she lived life to the fullest and on her own terms.  She was never one to hide her feelings, was a strong woman who had a heart with a great capacity of love for her family and friends, and who touched the lives of many people as she followed her life’s path.  June was born in Manchester, NH on July 28, 1938 to I. Charles and Anna W. Myslivy.  During World War II, the family moved to Brooklyn, NY while her father assisted in the shipyards, helping in the war efforts, but returned to her hometown when the war ended with a baby brother in tow.  Graduating from Central High School in 1956, she attended Plymouth Teachers College (now Plymouth State University) where she met her future husband, “Smokey,” Everson M. Rogers.  Working as a telephone operator for New England Bell, she married him on June 5, 1965, becoming a military bride and embarking on a life of travel across the United States with their eventual five sons.  While raising her family, June became active in her sons’ varying interests.  From scouting to sports events, the arts to DeMolay, she attended many functions over the years as parent, leader, cheerleader, and supporter, often juggling multiple events on the same day.  In the 1970s, June and Smokey opened their home to other children, becoming foster parents for those needing shelter and love.  And, while that ended with their family moving to Satellite Beach, Fl in 1976, she continued to open the family home to multiple children and friends of her sons as a shelter and safe place, if needed.  With Smokey’s retirement from the Air Force in 1979, a move to Orange Park in January 1982 made this their final home in their marriage that lasted 47 years.  Transferring her job with Sears in conjunction with the family move, she retired in 1995 when she was diagnosed and began treatment for colon cancer.  During and in between her treatments, she remained as active as she could muster and, once recovered, she re-entered the work force and found years of success at The Home Depot, finally retiring in 2011.  The only thing June loved more than her family and friends were animals.  From early on in their marriage, the family almost always had some kind of pet.  From fins to feathers, scales to fur, they had almost every pet imaginable.  June always had a heart for a rescue and eventually became Mom to her own pack of dogs, caring and doting on them daily.  June was predeceased by her parents and husband, Smokey.  She is survived by their five sons Karl, Kurt (Christie), Kerry (Melissa), Kory (Heather), and Kristian (Leslie), an adopted daughter, Martina Johnston, eleven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, her brother, Jon C. Myslivy, Sr., her sister-in-law, Nancy Myslivy, and extended family members across the country to include three special friends Christine Buffalo, Nikki Gomez, and Dawn Stachowick.  And, of course, her seven beloved dogs, now in the care of her son.  June’s memorial service will be Friday, February 15, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. at Riverside Avenue Christian Church, 2841 Riverside Avenue, Jacksonville, Fl with the Reverend Kimberly Weir presiding.  Internment will follow the service at the Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, Fl, 12:30 p.m., Lane One, where she will be laid to her final rest with her husband.  In lieu of flowers and in keeping with June’s love of children and animals, the family asks that donations be made in her memory to either The Foster Closet, 8307 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville, Fl 32216 (www.fostercloset.org) or the Safe Animal Shelter, 2913 County Road 220, Middleburg, Fl, 32068 (www.safeanimalshelter.com).
