Karl B. Shinn

Karl Benjamin Shinn – 78 years

Passed away January 29, 2023, in Jacksonville, FL. He was born in Patterson, NJ to Ruth Banting and Karl Benjamin on September 23, 1944 and grew up in Point Pleasant Beach, NJ.

Karl obtained his bachelor’s degree from East Tennessee State University and served in the U.S. Army as a Lieutenant. He later owned his own business in Ft Lauderdale and Jacksonville – The Curtiss Group, Intl, doing corporate downsizing and executive search.

Karl was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Green Cove Springs, and he served as a lay reader. He was also a member of the North Florida Bluegrass Assn. His hobbies included playing and performing in some of the local restaurants on his guitar and mandolin and singing. At other times he could be found at his local golf course – sometimes with the family dog, Murphy.

He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife of 32 years, Barbara, his son Mark B. Shinn (Patty) and his sister, Susan Copson (Bob), his 3 stepchildren and 7 grandchildren.

A Memorial service is planned for March 17 at 1pm at St. Mary’s Church with a reception at Magnolia Point Clubhouse, immediately following.
