Kathleen “Kat” Gail Gray of Middleburg, FL passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 8, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of being a wonderful, loving wife, mother, granny, great grandmother, aunt, great aunt, church friend & neighborhood friend. She always supported her family in their endeavors or activities they were involved in. Loved to feed anyone that would eat, and no one was a stranger. She was a disciple of God and shared His story to whomever would listen. She enjoyed her church family and was a dedicated member of First Black Creek Baptist Church. This is where she sang songs some of which she wrote herself and played the guitar or piano. She received these talents from her father, George Harvey Smith, who she loved to talk about, especially his band.
She was raised in a church by her mother, Eva Elizabeth Ballentine, and continued even after having her own family. She was married 61 years to the true love of her life Yates Gray whom she met in her Larson neighborhood. They spent many years at the baseball field after becoming a family. Took vacations in the mountains, fishing trips along with many other adventures.
She graduated from Dupont High School in May of 1963. She would then work at Lawrence Pharmaceuticals, Prudential & later years at Keith Pierson Toyota until becoming retired.
She is preceded in death by her parents Eva Ballentine & George Smith, brother Clawson Smith, daughter Cheryl Gray, grandson Brian Gray & great grandson Tyler Gray.
Kat is survived by her husband, Yates Gray; son, Allan Gray(Kim); grandsons, Dustin Hough(Amber), Kyle Hough, Jason Smith Jr (Allison), and Drake Gray; great granddaughter, Bella Kissinger; great grandsons, Jase Gray, and Kelby Hough; nephews, George Smith(Kim), and Leslie Smith; niece, Tana Hamburger(Mark) & cherished grand nephews, grand nieces, great grand nephews, great grand nieces.
A Memorial Services/Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at First Black Creek Baptist Church, 3904 FL – 16, Green Cove Springs, FL 32043, with Pastor Gary W. Melvin officiating.
