Kathleen Ione Wright

Kathleen Ione Wright, 100, passed away peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior on November 7, 2023 at the Pavilion of Penney Retirement Community in Penney Farms, Florida. She was born on October 8, 1923 in Maurice, Iowa to her parents, Ralph William Mieras and Mabel Mieras.

In 1937 her family moved to Annville, Kentucky where she became the valedictorian of her High School before going on to attend Berea College at Berea, Kentucky. She was working in the State House of Kentucky as a secretary when she met Arthur Franklin Wright who was a C.P.O. in the US Navy. They were married and moved to Green Cove Springs after WW II.

After Arthur’s discharge from the Navy, Kathleen and Arthur built and operated several businesses in Green Cove Springs, Florida. After Arthur’s death in 1959, Kathleen continued operating some of the businesses for a few years before going back to college at Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, Florida. She received a BS Degree in 1970 while working as a substitute elementary school teacher and raising her three sons. She became a Science Teacher at Green Cove Springs Middle school.

Kathleen was an Elder in the Presbyterian Church in Green Cove Springs. She was the President of the Clay County Retired Teachers Association and was elected Director for the Florida Retired Educators Association, District V. She also served as Vice President of the Agency on Aging and Friend of the Abused Women’s Association.

Kathleen enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and boating and activities with her friends and family.

She is preceded in death by her husband Arthur F. Wright, her parents Ralph William Mieras & Mabel Mieras, and her great grandson Cody Wright.

She is survived by her sister Barbara Sanders of Ashville, North Carolina, her sons, Brian Wright of Kingsland, GA., Dennis Wright (Barbara) of Clintwood, VA. & Ralph Wright (Larita) of Green Cove Springs, FL., her grandchildren Troy, Jeremy, Jamie, Denny, Josh, Jason & Aaron, her great-grandchildren Alyssa, Brian, Ashley, Samantha, Emily, Casey Jane, Tyler, Carter, Cohen, Colette, Colson, Caleb, Camille, Capri, Cora, Mason, & Kathleen, and her great-great grandson Casen.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the First Presbyterian Church may be made in her name. You can mail your donations to 300 Gum Street, Green Cove Springs, FL 32043.

There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at the First Presbyterian Church in Green Cove Springs at 11 AM, followed by food and refreshments in the hall for those who would like to join us.
