Lea J. Harwell

Lea J. Harwell of Fleming Island, FL passed away on September 06, 2023 at Life Care Center of Orange Park after a fall and a long battle of trying to recover.

Lea was born to Bruce and Beatrice Jones in Pavo, Georgia. The family then moved to Pearson, FL.

Lea graduated from Pearson High School, and after graduation Lea attended Jones College in Jacksonville, FL where she earned a degree in accounting and worked as a bookkeeper for many years after. While working in Jacksonville she and a friend attended a dance at the USO club of Jacksonville where she met her husband, Dave Harwell. Lea and Dave were married June 06, 1955 and spent the next 51 years together living and loving each other till his passing September 08, 2003. Much like her mother, Lea loved working in her yard that had many different varieties of wildflowers, most with the intent of attracting Hummingbirds. Lea enjoyed rocking on her back porch watching the Hummingbirds and Cardinal’s feed. Lea was a member of many garden clubs and loved creating flower arrangements and decorating her home with them.

She is survived by her sister Carlyon Becker of Seville, FL and her brother Lamar Jones of Lyons, GA. Her oldest son Edwin Harwell of Fleming Island and her two grandsons Daniel Harwell of Arlington, VA and Zachariah Harwell also of Fleming Island. Her youngest son Coleman Harwell and his wife Cynthia of Green Cove Springs, FL. 

Service to be held at Harbor Baptist Church, 1120 Clay St, Fleming Island, FL 32003, Saturday, September 16, 2023, viewing to be held at 2:00 and services at 3:00. In Lieu of flowers send donations to Harbor Baptist Church.
