Leonora "Leony" San Luis passed away peacefully at home on February 27, 2021 due to failing health conditions.
Known to many as "Nanay" (mother), "Lola" (grandmother), a friend, avid wrestling fan, and one heck of a Mahjong hustler.
Leony was born on October 13, 1932 in IloIlo City, Philippines. Her son-in-law's military career allowed her to live in Japan and England before moving to Orange Park, Florida.
Leony had a big heart and opened her home in the Philippines to those seeking shelter. She touched many through her infectious smile, kind nature, and most of all, her cooking. She showed her love through food as a typical Filipina grandmother with her most used phrase, "Kumain ka na?" (Have you eaten?)
She loved to watch wrestling and exclaimed at the TV with words like "Ooh yeah get him!" and "Throw him!" despite not having a mean bone in her body. She named every wrestler that appeared on screen, among her favorites being The Rock, John Cena, Mankind, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, The Undertaker and of course Hulk Hogan.
Leony was a member of the Jacksonville Word of Faith Church, where Pastor Simone preaches God's word. Known as "Momma," and loved by everyone in the church. She made several friends who will sadly miss her.
She was preceded in death by her son, Danilo, who was lost at Sea.
She is survived by her daughter, Elvie Hunt, son-in-law Richard Hunt; grandchildren Florien Jahn and her husband Andrew Jahn, William Hunt and his wife Jennifer Hunt; great-grandchildren Kristian, Maia, Isaiah, Josh and Dylan; sister Aurora San Luis as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family will hold a private service at home.
In lieu of flowers, ask your loved ones if they've eaten yet - Leony would've whipped you up something to eat.
