Lester Lorell Eddy, age 92, went to be with the Lord April 21, 2020. He died at his home in the presence of his loving family. He was born to James DeForest Eddy and Cora Lee Burris Eddy on July 28, 1927 in Green Cove Springs, Fl
Lester grew up in Green Cove Springs and moved to the Palatka area later in life where he resided for over 30 years. His life changed greatly at age 40 when he became a Christian. He and his precious late wife, Mary, were very active in the Lord’s work in churches and in Campers on Mission. In Campers on Mission they worked in Vacation Bible Schools, nursing homes and campgrounds in the Carolinas. It was an exciting time of life for them serving together. When moving back to Green Cove Springs, they rejoined Hickory Grove Baptist Church. In his younger years he had served Hickory Grove as a Sunday School teacher, Youth Department Director, Sunday School Director, and on various committees. Lester also participated in the Black Creek Baptist Association by teaching in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School clinics during those years.
He loved to plant a garden and did so for many years. At one time he had no way to water the garden so he would get down on his knees when he finished planting and pray for God to bless his garden. Year after year he had lots to share with family and friends. He also loved chocolate and sharing funny jokes and stories with everyone. He loved to keep us entertained.
Lester was proud of earning his GED as an adult. Before retirement from Georgia Pacific in Palatka after 26 years, he also worked at Burlington Mills and A&P Grocery Warehouse. As a teenager he worked various jobs. Having a strong work ethic, he even continued doing his own yard work until age 90.
Lester is predeceased by his beloved wife Mary, his parents, and his son Steve Eddy (Gloria) and by Mary’s children Donna Collins (Tony); Larry Johnston, and grandson Tony Collins, Jr.
Lester is survived by his loving daughters, Maxine Janda (Gene) and Joanne Dales (Howard), Debbie Echols (the late Ray), Teresa Hunter (Wayne), Sheri Crews (Billy); and son, Tommy Johnston (the late Phyllis); grandchildren Dean Janda (Dawn), Troy Janda (Julia), Gina Janda Hackworth (Larry), Dana Dales Moyers and Shannon Dales (Tracy), and Stevie Eddy and Gary Keathley. He and Mary were blessed with a total of 15 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, and 13 great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by nieces Carolyn Roberts and Cathy Roberts and nephew Ronald Roberts (Barbara).
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
