Linda Widdowson

Linda Altman Widdowson, 84, of Green Cove Springs, Fl. passed into her heavenly home on Tuesday, April 27, 2021.

She was born in Savannah, Ga to Otis B. and Ulma White Altman. Linda graduated from high school in Sylvania, Ga and then attended the University of Georgia where she met her husband of 62 years, Dr. Walt Widdowson. Early in their marriage she and Walt lived in California with the Air Force before returning to the East Coast to start a family. 

Linda was a homemaker for most of her life, although she taught school for a few years. She worked with Walt as a bookkeeper and part time receptionist in his Jacksonville veterinary practice. 

Linda loved the Lord and was committed to sharing her love of Jesus with others. She taught Sunday school in the Young Married Ladies class at FBC Jax for many years and truly loved “her girls.” Later on she worked in the church nursery each Sunday, rocking sweet babies. 

An avid adventurer, Linda loved hunting, fishing, scuba diving and even learned to fly an airplane. She and Walt traveled all over the United States and the Caribbean. Her greatest hobby was sewing. There are too many quilts to count that she made for the people she loved. You knew if you received one you were special indeed.

She was a breast cancer survivor, rabid DAWG fan, and loyal caregiver. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister and several brothers -in-law.

She is survived by her son, Ray Widdowson (Ryan Gerhardt) of Green Cove, Julie Dorough (Mike Dorough) of Gainesville, Ga, grandchildren John Michael Dorough (Holly Strickland), Holly Ann Ward (Scott Ward), and Clay Widdowson, great-grandson Wyatt McCoy Dorough, and two sisters-in-laws.

A memorial service to honor the lives of Linda and Walt Widdowson will be held at 11:00am on Friday, May 7, 2021 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel with The Reverend Luke Memminger officiating.  The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.
