Lon Carl Fowler, 99, of Laurel, Nebraska, passed away on December 23, 2023, in Orange Park, FL. He was born on May 5, 1924 weighing in at 2.4 lbs. Lon was a true testament of a long and fulfilling life. He lived by conservative values and his greatest wish was to be able to vote in 2024. Lon proudly served in the US Air Force for 30 years, achieving the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He later served as a Major in the US Air Force Reserves. Enlisting in 1943, he served in World War II and in Vietnam earning the Bronze Star. Lon retired in 1973. Lon's commitment and dedication to his military service were commendable, and he was highly respected among his peers. Lon was a hardworking and dedicated individual who believed in the value of hard work. In his spare time, he was a member of the Masonic Order for 76 years. After his retirement in 1973, he was able to enjoy his life fishing in Ely, Minnesota, and working outdoors doing what he loved best, clearing shrubs and vines. Lon will be deeply missed by his loved ones. He is survived by his children Byron (Anne), Karen (James) & Kevin (Joan), his grandchildren Joseph, Margaret (Simon), Paul (Angie), Amanda, James & Chris (Kim), his great-grandchildren Tommy & Ray, and his sister Virginia Spurlin (Ogden). Lon is preceded in death by his mother Della Payne, his father Byron L Fowler, his beloved wife Dolores, and his sister Jamie. A ceremony to honor Lon's life will be held at Jacksonville National Cemetery on February 16, 2024, at 10:00 AM.
