Lynn Arthur Aubel

(September 3, 1926 – July 1, 2023)

Lynn Arthur Aubel, 96, Penney Farms, Florida, passed away July 1, 2023. He was born in Pleasantville, NY to Paul J. and Lorano (Brundage) Aubel. He was the third and last survivor of four brothers, Dale, Lee, and Ronald. He graduated from Pleasantville High in 1944 and served in the United States Navy before enrolling into Georgia Tech (1947) and graduating with an Architectural Degree in 1952.

Lynn met his future wife of 70 years, Martha Perkins, in Atlanta, Georgia while attending Tech and they were married in 1953. Lynn and Martha moved to Ft. Lauderdale, FL where they resided for the next 53 years. As an architect in south Florida, Lynn was able to flourish with the booming commercial and private construction industry. Lynn loved his work and maintained employment until the age of 79 in 2005.

Lynn was an active member of the United Methodist Church (primarily First United Methodist Church of Ft. Lauderdale) until 2005.  He served in many capacities, from youth counselor to a member of numerous committees. He particularly enjoyed the studies and discussion provided by his Sunday school classes throughout years.

Lynn enjoyed photography and it served him well during many years of adventurous domestic and international travel. His early 35mm slide, and later, video presentations were enjoyed by family and friends.

In 2005, Lynn and Martha moved to Penney Retirement Community (PRC). In many ways, Lynn stayed busier at PRC in “retirement” than during his many years of employment! He gained much joy in assembling PETs (Personal Energy Transportation) carts, working in the PRC Resale Shop and assisting nursing home residents with their meals. Above all, the many residents he met and friendships he established meant the most to him. He truly loved his life at PRC.  

Lynn is survived by his wife, Martha, a son Mark (Elizabeth “Lee”) and a daughter Linda and  numerous nephews and nieces.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on July 8, 2023, at Penney Memorial Church in Penney Farms, FL. The Reverends Dick and Margaret Dodds will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Mobility Worldwide – Penney Farms Affiliate or Community Hospice & Palliative Care.
