Maggie Hires Cruce

Maggie “Meme” Hires Cruce, 89, of Orange Park, Florida passed away November 13, 2023.  She was born on February 25, 1934 in Taylor (now called Cuyler), Florida to parents Nathan Johnson and Verdie (Altman) Hires.

Meme loved spending time with her family at family gatherings. She also enjoyed lunches and outings with her brothers and sister and their genealogy jaunts. She was always puttering around the house and loved anything Elvis. Many members of the family received cooking lessons from her. Maggie was a quiet and kind person.

Maggie is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Floyd Cruce, her daughter Karon Annette Cruce (Joey) Graham, her granddaughter Stephanie Leigh Cruce Wilkinson, her great-great-grandson Brantley Aaron Rigney, her sister Thelma Hartley, and her brothers Aurbrie, Nathan Eugene, & Lawton Hardy Hires.

She is survived by her three children Sharon Elaine Cruce Howard (Ronnie), Larry Floyd Cruce & Gary Loyd Cruce (Linda), her sister Lue Bertha Hires Harvey, her brothers Wayne Hires & Lawrence “Vern” (Brenda) Hires, and her sisters-in-law Sally (Aurbrie) Hires & Jewel “Veta” Keene (Tommy) Varnes. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, one step-grandson, many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, November 20, 2023 at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, 3601 Old Jennings Rd, Middleburg, FL 32068.
