Margaret Jean Hamel

Margaret Jean Hamel of Fleming Island, Florida peacefully passed away on September 20, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. 

Margaret was born to Arthur Karow and Helen (Mattes) Karow on August 6, 1937, in Withee, Wisconsin. After graduating high school, she married Allan Hamel on August 18, 1956.  They moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin and in 1972 relocated to Farmington Hills, Michigan. Marge had several careers during this time with the final one being in Real Estate. 

After Allan passed away in 2000, Marge retired and moved to Fleming Island, Florida to be near her son and of course, to escape the frigid north.  She was a friend to so many and always there to help. She was a longtime member of the Elks, played MahJong, was part of a Red Hat group and acted in several plays among her many activities.  She was also an avid gardener. 

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, husband Allan and their daughter Nancy.

She is survived by her sister Janet (Ben) Proctor, children Linda Pobocik and Timothy (Tammy) Hamel.  She had 4 grandchildren: Richard, Julie, Joseph and Sarah.  And there were 2 great grandchildren: Emma and Judah, with a third on the way.

Marge also had a large circle of friends and will be missed by all. She will be remembered for her active social calendar, her loyal friendships and her hard-working spirit.

Marge will be cremated.  Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service at the Elks lodge in Green Cove Springs, Florida on Sunday, October 2, 2022 at 1:00pm. 

In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the Elks.
