Margaret "Maggie" Anne Giggey

January 10, 1945 — August 19, 2017

Margaret “Maggie” Anne Giggey, 72, of Orange Park, Florida, lost her battle with cancer on Saturday, August 19, 2017.  She was born in Portland, Maine and was the second child of George Edward and Esther June Hannigan. Maggie had been a resident of the Orange Park area for 49 years. She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Larry Giggey, Sr.; sons, Larry Giggey, Jr. and Kevin Giggey; daughter, Javone Tosun; sister, Mary Paridis with her children Robbie, Peter, Vailere and Diana, and their children of Maine; brother, John with his children Niki, Julie and John Jr. She spent 23 years of her life living in Maine where she and her siblings attended several schools in different towns because they were wards of the state due to hard times. Her mom, who had since become divorced, could not care for them properly. Maggie finally graduated from Portland High School. She lived and worked in Portland, Maine until July of 1968, when the love of her life swept her off of her feet and asked her to move to Florida and marry him. She accepted. Maggie and Larry Giggey were married in Kingsley, Georgia on August 3, 1968. This is where her life changed forever. Larry already served six years in the U.S. Navy, so now Maggie was to begin her life as a Navy wife for the next fourteen years. This was also the beginning of starting her and Larry’s family. On December 14, 1969, Larry Jr. was born. Knowing that she could not raise a child only on the pay of an E5, Maggie and Larry decided to take on other jobs to help raise their new child. Larry requalified as an Air crewman and started to receive flight pay, and Maggie also took a job. Things were going so well that on August 27, 1973 along comes Kevin. We then transferees, as Navy folks do, and Larry made the enlisted rank of Chief Petty Officer. Maggie asked what was missing in our life, now that we could do it, so along comes our daughter, Javone. The family will receive friends at 1:30pm on Sunday, August 27, 2017 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel with the funeral service following at 2:30pm, Chaplain Samuel Bennett officiant.
