Marilou S. Usher

Marilou S. Usher, of Penney Farms, FL, passed away on September 4, 2023 at the Penney Farms Pavilion for Health Care after suffering a stroke on August 27, the day before her 90th birthday.

Marilou was born to James A. and Isabel H. Spahr in Collingdale, Pennsylvania, the second of two girls, and lived within 10 miles of Collingdale for the first 83 years of her life. She moved to Penney Farms in 2016 and joined her sister, Jean who has resided there since 2008.

Marilou graduated from Collingdale High School Class of 1951 where she was well-known and well-liked being actively involved in the nursing club, A Capella choir, a member of the ‘Girls Sextette Singers’, the school paper and yearbook, the junior and senior plays, the dance committee, the Junior Prom Court, and the Sophomore, Junior and Senior May Queen Court. Her yearbook says, “Always happy, always gay, always witty and ready to play sums up our Marilou.”

After graduation, Marilou started college looking towards a degree in business but, after the first year, decided to attend beauty school instead. She led a full life centered around her Church, her family, her friends and their many activities. Summer vacations were spent at the Jersey Shore and Lake Wallenpaupack. Life was full of antiquing, picnics at Valley Forge and Brandywine, Phillies baseball games, and visits to the many historical sites in the Delaware Valley. Later in life she loved traveling around the United States with her husband Wayne, and overseas to Cartegena, Colombia where her sister was a missionary for Latin American Mission.

She is survived by her older sister, Isabel Jean Spahr, of Penney Farms; her eldest son James Fingerle and his wife Elena of Ormond Beach, FL and her grandson Nicholas of Frederick, MD; son David Fingerle of Delaware County, PA; step-daughter Gail Mattia and her husband Vince of Broomall, PA: twin step-sons Gary and Gregory Usher of Newtown Square, PA; Gregory’s daughter Lauren and her husband Rob Morganti; step-daughter Susan Usher of Newtown Square, step-son Brian Usher and his wife Sheri of West Chester, PA, and their children Brittany, Brooke and Shane; she is also survived by 3 step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Wayne Usher and her parents James and Isabel Spahr.
