It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Marilyn Haynes Walklett, who left us on February 20, 2025, at the age of eighty-six. She was born to Clara Mae Wiles, 29, and Paul Homer Haynes, 32, in North Wilkesboro, Wilkes County, North Carolina.
She was beloved by her husband, William D Walklett, for 50 years and survived by her two sons Lee McNeil (Beverly) and Scott McNeil (Sandra), her daughter Dawn Haley and 4 Grandchildren. Sean Haley, Nikki Haley, Maxwell McNeil, Tiffiny McNeil. Her parents were previously deceased. She died from the from the ravages of Alzheimer’s disease which was, historically, accelerated by the severe occurrence of covid disease.
Marilyn lived a life full of love, laughter, and adventure. She dedicated her time to a career in Medicine, as a youth in school sports assistant and equipment handler, administrative aide and last, as homemaker. Finally, as she would like to tell us, she was the extra school bus driver when in high school.
Her hobbies and passions involved cooking and cookbooks, photos, travel (50 state capitals), gardens, and touching the lives of many with kindness, humor and generosity
She was preceded in death by her brother William Paul Haynes and four sisters, Betty J Hall, Nancy Gwinith Gregg, Janet J Lowder, and Andrea Alece Key.
She is beloved and is survived by her husband William Walklett for fifty years, two sons Lee and Scott, one daughter Dawn, four grandchildren Sean, Nikki, Maxwell, and Tiffany and one great grandson Gabriel. She will be remembered by them for her unwavering support, love, and joy she brought into their lives.
A memorial service to honor Marilyn’s life will be held on a future Date. Friends and family are invited to share memories and the remarkable person Marilyn years was.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation, if you wish, made to an Alzheimer’s disease study or the Community Hospice in Marilyn’s memory.
Marilyn rest in peace, in their memory and be a blessing to those who knew and loved you.
