Resting Place
I have found myself a special place beside a sloping hill.
It’s covered with every kind of bloom, from roses to daffodils.
It’s very peaceful here, so beautiful and so quiet.
Not a word is ever spoken, in the day or in the night.
Lots of people would say “It’s the last place I would want to be.”
But not a person who’s life has gone so fast.
I never had time to rest, but here I can at last,
Nestled among some shady oaks, and pine trees down the hill.
You can hear their gentle whisper as the wind flows rough to still.
I’m never ever lonesome, because all my kin are here.
And when the sun is shining and in a special place,
I can read the names of some and remember every face,
When children come to visit, they come at Halloween,
And then it’s only to scare their friends or just to hear them scream.
They play all sorts of jokes and whisper through the night.
And when the dawn is breaking and nothing else to fear,
You can see them all vanish, but their voices linger here.
Winter makes her visit with winds and gentle snow.
It leaves her face upon each stone with brilliant glow.
Then comes spring with her gentle rains,
To open all the flowers to bloom here once again.
So take the time to take a stroll through this garden fair,
And bid us all farewell, and leave us with your prayers.
