In Memoriam: Marlowe Dugger, Retired Navy Master Chief, Beloved Husband, Father, Papa, and Friend

Marlowe, a dedicated and honorable man, departed this world on November 25th leaving behind a legacy of love, leadership, and loyalty. He was a retired Navy Master Chief, a devoted husband, a loving father, a cherished Papa, and a true friend to many.

Born on March 4, 1950. He joined the United States Navy with a passion for service, and over the years, he earned the rank of Master Chief. He gained the respect and admiration of those around him. After retiring from the United States Navy he served as an officer for the Florida Department of Corrections. His leadership skills, unwavering dedication, and exemplary service set him apart as a Master Chief and Corrections Officer, roles in which he excelled and left an indelible mark on his comrades.  

Off duty, Marlowe was a pillar of strength and support for his family. His love for his wife was evident in every glance, smile, and touch. and his commitment to his children was unwavering. As a father, he instilled values of integrity, discipline, and perseverance, shaping the character of the next generation.

In his role as "Papa," Marlowe brought joy and warmth to the lives of his grandchildren. He shared stories of his adventures, offered sage advice, and created lasting memories that will be cherished for generations to come. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to call him "Papa."

As a friend, Marlowe was known for his camaraderie, loyalty, and a sense of humor that could brighten even the darkest days. Whether sharing stories of naval exploits or offering a listening ear, he was a steadfast companion who enriched the lives of those around him.

Marlowe is survived by his wife; Joyce Dugger, three children: Robbie Dugger, Gwinn Dugger, and Hope Leak, five grandchildren, and one great granddaughter and a host of friends and colleagues who will miss his presence dearly. While he may no longer be with us in person, his spirit lives on in the memories we hold and the values he instilled in those fortunate enough to know him.

A service to celebrate Marlowe's life will be held on Tuesday, December 5th at 11:00 a.m. in the Broadus-Raines Chapel. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m.

The inurnment with Military Honors will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 29, 2023 at Jacksonville National Cemetery.

May Marlowe rest in eternal peace, and may his legacy of service, love, and friendship continue to inspire us all.
