Martha Cannington Maxwell

Martha Cannington Maxwell, 86, of Green Cove Springs, FL passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2024. She was born on May 31, 1938, in Eastman, GA to parents Woodrow and Dorothy Cannington. Martha was life-long resident of Green Cove Springs, devoted to her family and friends, and attended Hickory Grove Baptist Church. Martha served on the Clay County School Board for twelve years and was the first woman Chair. She was also a charter Board member for establishment and early years of the Clay County Agricultural Fair. 

Martha was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years James “Jeep” Maxwell, grandson Brooks Maxwell (Ken), and sister Jane McCarthy. Martha is survived by sons Jeff, Ken, and Jim Maxwell; grandsons Cooper Maxwell and Austin Maxwell; brother John Cannington (Mechanicsville, Virginia); sister Linda Lynn (Longwood, Florida); and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

The family will receive friends for visitation from 10:00am to 11:00am Friday, September 13, 2024 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel and funeral services will commence at the chapel following visitation at 11:00am. Interment will follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Green Cove Springs, FL.
