Mary Carter

Mary Joan Carter, 77, of Green Cove Springs, Florida passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on Friday, January 24, 2025, surrounded by her family. Mary was born to Leroy and Lela Edenfield on October 12, 1947, in Green Cove Springs, Florida. 

She retired in 2011 from Governors Creek Nursing Facility, after having a 33-year career as the dietary assistant manager. After retirement Mary spent the rest of her time doing what she loved the most, spending time with her grandchildren. She was known for having a kind heart and helping those in need. As the matriarch of the family, she enjoyed cooking and bringing people together. 

She was preceded in death by her parents Leroy and Lela Edenfield; husband Melburn Carter Sr; brothers Edward Edenfield, Roy Edenfield, and Joseph Edenfield; Sister Eunice Taylor; Daughter Lisa Sutherland; and Granddaughter Shannon Smyth.

She is survived by her brother Timmy Edenfield (Debbie); Sisters Hazel Beasley, Donna McCoy, Angie Nation (Ray); Son Melburn Carter Jr (Amy); Daughter Robin Husted (Randy); Grandchildren Amber Williams (Claude), Jessica Batton (David), Randy Husted (Rebekah), Cheyenne Husted-Kruger (Shawn), Zachrey Carter, Kelsey Carter, Wesley Carter, Lily Carter, and Tobey Carter; along with 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. 

The family will welcome friends on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, from 6-8 pm at Broadus-Raines funeral home. Funeral services will be held at Shiloh Baptist Church on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at 11 am followed by a graveside service.
