Mary Delores Sullivan went peacefully to be with the Lord April 27, 2022. She lived a long and glorious life.
Delores was the youngest of eight siblings born to John Thomas Pope and Emma Irene (Kitty) Austin Pope. She was born in Mobile Alabama, May 19, 1931. She attended Murphy High School. She was working at the Crown Movie Theater in 1954 when she met a young sailor, Barney Sullivan. Two weeks later they rode a Greyhound bus to Mississippi and got married.
In 1964, when Brookley Airforce Base was closed they moved to Jacksonville, Florida where Barney had family. He continued to work as an Aircraft Mechanic while Delores cared for three children and attended to her own Mother until her passing at age 94. She was a member of Lake Shore Baptist Church and later Shindler Baptist church.
Delores is preceded in death by her mother and father, seven siblings, and her first born son, Stephen Michael. (A Family reunited for all Eternity)
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Barney; daughter Julie Deck of Orange Park; son Robert Sullivan (Rebecca) of Jacksonville; four grandchildren: Drew Deck (Czarinna), Jarrod Sullivan (Amber), Hannah Sullivan Green (Evan), and Douglas Deck. She will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, longtime friends and neighbors.
By far her proudest accomplishment is the legacy she leaves behind of her beautiful great-grandchildren: Liam, Evan (E.J.), Brody, and Haylee.
The family will receive friends from 1:00pm-2:00pm on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at Lake Shore Baptist Church. The funeral will follow at 2:00pm with Dr. Robert Sullivan officiating. Following the service, the family invites everyone to the reception hall to celebrate with memories and joy… “A Life Well Lived”. The graveside service will take place at 2:00pm on Monday, May 16, 2022 at Jacksonville National Cemetery with Dr. Robert Sullivan officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the H.E.A.L. Foundation (Helping Enrich Autistic Lives) in her great-grandson’s name, Liam Sullivan, would honor her memory greatly. Donations can be made here.
