Mary Ann Wagemaker

February 6, 1930 — July 3, 2021

Mary Ann Wagemaker peacefully passed away Saturday July 3, 2021 at 91 years of age.  She was born to Arnold and Virginia Lomel on February 6,1930 in Savannah, GA where she was raised.

She graduated high school from Ashley Hall in Charleston, SC, earned a BA from Columbia Bible College in Columbia SC, and a Nursing degree from Jefferson Community College in Louisville, Ky.

She married Herb Wagemaker on June 14, 1956 in Savannah, GA and moved with him to Ann Arbor, MI then on to Philadelphia, PA and Grosse Pointe, MI before returning to the south.  She spent most of her married life in Florida, first Jacksonville, then Gainesville, Ponte Vedra Beach and Penney Farms.  She lived a short time in Louisville, KY between Gainesville and Ponte Vedra Beach.

She, along with her husband started a Young Life club at Terry Parker HS in Jacksonville, FL in 1962.  The following year they moved to Gainesville, FL where they brought Young Life to that community and it became a life long ministry for her.

She was an avid tennis player most of her adult life.  She was a member of PEO in both Louisville and Ponte Vedra Beach.  She loved to cross stitch and knit.  She knitted Christmas stockings for her family that are still cherished to this day.

She showed her love for Christ everyday in both her actions and her words.  She never met a stranger and generously gave to everyone she encountered. She had boundless love for her family, especially her grandchildren and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents Arnold and Virginia Lomel and her brothers Billy and Charlie Lomel.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Dr. Herbert Wagemaker, daughters Robyn

Riegler (Randy), Bobbi Howard (Billy), Lori Brennick (Layne), her grand children Alex Riegler (Kate), Andra Riegler, Hunter Brennick, Haley Brennick (Austin Schlenbaker), James Howard Stanley, great granddaughter Olivia Riegler, sister Ruth Mullininx, nine nephews and a niece.

She was a beloved wife, mother, mother-in–law, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

She loved the Lord, her family, her friends and life itself.  One of her favorite quotes was “Bloom where you are planted” and she did!

While she will be sadly missed, we are comforted by the thought that she is whole and pain-free with the Lord she loved.

Her memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at Chets Creek Church, 4420 Hodges Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32224.
