Mildred Lee Smith

Our beloved Mama, Mildred Lee Hanlon Smith passed away on May 23, 2024. 

She was the archetype of a Southern lady that lived a full life from the depression onwards…fiercely loving of her family, willing to walk through fire to fight for those she loved and constantly exuding a grace regardless of the circumstance that exhibited the deep faith she had in our Lord.  

A celebration of her life was held on June 4th with family and friends.  There was lots of laughter and tears, sharing slides and movies of a life well lived. After a second broken hip at 98 years old, Mama was ready to go be with her Savior.  No more pain!

She had three children, Lt Col Russell Hanlon Smith, who proceeded her in death, Dr Nancy Jo Smith, and Rev Jay Smith.  Millie lived with her son Jay and his wife Lyn Maxey Smith for the last 30 years.  What a precious gift from God she was to them. She was blessed with 7 grand children. Jay Hanlon Smith, Scott Alexander Smith, Jason Thomas Smith, Jodi Lyn Smith Rook, Jennifer Lee Smith Fresh, James Russell Smith, and April Smith West.  She had 20 great grandchildren who were the joy of her very long life! Words cannot express how much we will miss her. But we rejoice knowing we will be with her again one day!
