Ms. Ruthie F. Stokes

Ms. Ruthie F. Stokes, age 81 of Green Cove Springs, Florida, passed away on Saturday, January 26, 2019.  She was born on May 21, 1937 in Grandin, Florida to the late Abraham Woodland and Johnnie Ellen Woodland.  In 1953, she married George Stokes and together they had four children.

She is preceded in death by her first husband George Stokes and son Cleve Stokes and survived by husband Gerald Spurlin, her daughter, Terrie Grant (Sandy), daughter Aletha Montefalcon, son Steve Stokes, and nine grandchildren, Elliott Grant (Madeline), Ashley Grant, Tarisa Brewer, Denise Mills (Dan), Arsenio Rodriguez, Alexandria Rodriguez, Desirae Akerman (Kevin), Chrissy Hirsch (Kevin) and Jamie Krantz (Danny) as well as 12 great-grandchildren.

She began her long career with the State of Florida as a nurse’s aide in the ICU and ER departments of the Clay County Hospital in 1969, and transferred to the Clay County Health Department in 1988.  While at the Health Department, she obtained many different certifications including a certification as a Pharmacy Technician.  In this role, she was responsible for ordering medications for all of the Clay County Health Department locations.  

She was involved in various activities with her church, Living Waters Worship Center, where she faithfully attended for over 20 years. She loved to volunteer for their many community outreach events and could be counted on to do anything that was needed.  She was well known for her cooking, crafting and best of all her smiles and hugs.  She was dearly loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed. 

Visitation will be on Thursday, January 31, 2019 from 6-8pm at Broadus Raines Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at Decoy Baptist Cemetery on Friday, February 1, 2019 at 3pm, 671 Decoy Rd. Green Cove Springs, FL.  A reception will follow at Living Waters Worship Center, 1104 Idlewild Avenue.
