Nellie Manning, formally of Mooresville, NC passed away peacefully, Monday, July 22, 2019 in the Moosehaven Health Care Center, Orange Park, Florida at the age of 85.

She was born July 8, 1934 in Hamilton County Ohio to Alvin and Icey Sutherland Ray. 

Nellie lived many years in Wheaton, Maryland before marrying Robert Manning of Aberdeen, Maryland.  They moved to Mooresville, North Carolina to be near her family. They enjoyed 11 happy years together until he passed away in 2012. 

She was also preceded in death by her son John Marino, her siblings, Beatrice Thompson, Cody Ray, Luke Ray, Mont Lee Ray, Pearl Craft, Randy Ray, Delmar Ray, Charlene Gallo, Donald Ray, and Mary DeMarco. Husbands, Howard Pruner and Charles Horne.

She is survived by her sons, Rex Allen Pruner, and daughter-in-law Velda of Mooresville, NC, and Howard Lee Pruner, and daughter-in-law Toni of Matthews, NC; grandchildren, Jamie Pruner, Mooresville, NC, Justin Pruner and Cori Pruner, Matthews, NC, and Valerie Croce, Huntersville, NC. Her siblings, Jan Sager of Baltimore, MD, and Patricia Mineo of Sugar Hill, GA, many nieces, nephews and friends who loved her dearly, and her beloved dachshund Mollie Mae. 

Nellie became a member of the Women of the Moose, affiliated with the Loyal Order of Moose, Chapter #1435, Wheaton, MD on May 11, 1971. She joined the Mooresville Chapter #1513 when she moved to North Carolina. She received her Academy of Friendship degree on January 1, 1973, her College of Regents degree on June 4, 1978 and Star Recorder on June 19, 1979. Over the years Nellie sponsored 227 members to the Moose fraternity. 

Nellie enjoyed life, time spent with her children, especially at Christmas time.  She enjoyed staying at her cabin at Hungry Mother Park, Marion, VA. Nellie loved to bowl, one of her many passions, and traveled all over the U.S. competing in bowling tournaments. 

She came to Moosehaven on August 31, 2015 where she resided for over 3 years. 

The family gives special thanks to Kathy Morris of Moosehaven for all the love and support she gave Nellie during her time in the hospital. She is truly a very good friend, a special lady, and a great comfort to Nellie’s family. Also thanks to Helen Taylor and the Moosehaven administration for taking such good care of Nellie. 

Memorial services will be held at a later date, in the Moosehaven Chapel, and will follow with a private service for family and friends and internment in Marion, Virginia.
