Peter Morgan Noonan, beloved father, brother, and grandfather passed away at his home in Orange Park, Florida on April 29th, 2020.
Peter was born in 1942 in London, England to Irish parents—Morgan and Edna Noonan (née Kiernan). In 1956, Peter and his family, including a brother Bernard, and a sister Marlene, immigrated to NYC. He attended Holy Trinity High School, followed by Brooklyn College where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. Shortly thereafter, Peter enlisted in the United States Navy and was assigned to multiple overseas locations. Upon finishing his term of service, Peter joined Chase Manhattan Bank in their International Operations Department. The bulk of his years with the bank were spent in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Between his service with the Navy and Chase Manhattan overseas offices as an ex-pat, Peter developed an affinity for travel and an appreciation of foreign cultures which never left him.
After returning to the United States, Peter met and married Patricia McNamara (1977) and between them raised four lovely children; Peter, Moira, Sean, and Meghan. Their early years of marriage were spent in Brooklyn, New York where Peter began working as an auditor with the Naval Exchange System. Eventually, in 1988, they were reassigned to the Jacksonville, Florida location where they raised their family and remained.
An affinity for cats, inherited from his mother, remained strong throughout his life. (This warm regard seemed to be reciprocal, even from the most finicky of felines.) In his younger days, Peter showed talents for baseball and drawing; later in life, with his career and growing family becoming the focus, these interests continued to manifest through coaching baseball and soccer for his son’s teams and the varied artistic pursuits of his children. Peter and Pat also found time to travel. Particularly, they enjoyed time in Ireland where they relished the picturesque scenery and generosity of their many family members still residing on the Emerald Isle. In addition to Ireland, there were also frequent trips to visit family back in Brooklyn, a place that both Peter and Pat always considered home.
Peter’s biggest lament was that physical ailments—in recent years—prevented him from visiting his family, who now live around the country and abroad. Peter is survived by Patricia, their son Peter and his wife Sawa, and their newborn baby daughter Chloé residing in Japan; daughter Moira Lemay (née Noonan) and her husband Heath, along with their three young boys Logan, Colin, and Liam residing in Seattle, Washington; son Sean and his wife Megan residing in Kingston, New York, and youngest daughter Meghan who is living in nearby Jacksonville, Florida.
The Covid-19 pandemic precludes any large celebration of Peter’s life, but we expect to have a family gathering to celebrate and memorialize Peter’s life as soon as it concludes.
