Phebe Ann “Pat” Shelly, 94, of Penney Farms, died on April 17, 2022.
She was born to Leone and Harold Taylor on January 14, 1928, in Williamsport, PA. She was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Shelly. She is survived by her daughter Lee Wallace, granddaughter Laurie Thompson (James), great grandsons Archer Thompson (Raven), and Drake Thompson.
Pat graduated from the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio, and spent most of her work life with preschool education. She and Bill spent the first few years of married life in Hawaii and then in Miami, places where Bill was stationed with the Marines.
Pat was the Executive Director of the Lycoming Child Day Care Center in Williamsport, PA, and then worked for the state of Pennsylvania licensing daycare centers and day care homes. After retiring, she left the cold and snowy Pennsylvania winters and moved south to Florida.
She spent summers at the family’s cottage at Lake Mokoma throughout her life, and was active in committees and on the board of the Lake Mokoma Association. She enjoyed birdwatching, particularly hummingbirds and shore birds, and was involved in the Penney Birders Club in recent years.
Pat loved listening to music. She enjoyed singing, and was the soprano soloist in her church for many years. She also sang with several community organizations. Pat loved the beach and warm water, did synchronized swimming in her earlier years, and still swam laps well into her retirement. She was interested in shells and beachcombing, and has some treasured finds from Hawaii and the Florida Gulf Coast and Atlantic beaches. Pat enjoyed her family, whether catching up by phone, spending time, or traveling with them, always looking for new activities to do.
Pat will be remembered for her cheerfulness, long conversations, patience, and kindness.
There will be a private family service.
