Phillip C. Curnalia, Jr. 56, of Green Cove Springs, FL, passed away after an extended illness on October 31, 2023, at home. He was born on December 15, 1966, in Daytona Beach, Florida to Phillip C. Curnalia, Sr. and Carol Creegan.
Phillip was raised in Holly Hill, FL for most of his childhood. He graduated from Wolfson High School in Jacksonville, FL in 1984. He worked in the restaurant industry as a cook, as a municipal pipe camera technician and eventually landing a job with Vac-Con, Inc. in 1989 located in Green Cove Springs. Phillip started out working the floor in sub assembly and eventually progressed to the title of Production Improvement Manager. Phillip was often introduced as the NASCAR Pit Crew Chief of Vac-Con, as he knew the machines like no other. He garnered much respect and admiration from his co-workers and vendor contacts that he acquired throughout his career of 34+ years at Vac-Con, Inc. He was honored with a memorial and the company flag flown at half-staff after his passing.
Phillip enjoyed many hobbies, but his true love was to be on the water, whether it be in the St. John’s River or the ocean. He loved his time fishing and just putzing around exploring coves. He very much enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson ‘Ole Blue’. He spent many hours in his shop rebuilding engines, restoring motorcycles, his high school hotrod and 77 Dodge Sidestep truck. He was a prolific handyman and had a natural mechanical ability that he was blessed with. He loved tinkering and being outside listening to his music. He adored the Rottweiler breed and had five, with the last being Judah, his best friend. Phillip will be remembered as a faithful loving husband, son, father and friend that had a contagious laugh and smile. He was a man of conviction and integrity that he practiced throughout his life and work. He will be truly missed every day.
Phillip is preceded in death by James Curnalia (brother), Wendy Morey (aunt), Charles Morey (cousin), Trudy Morey (grandmother), Robert Creegan (father) and Phillip C. Curnalia, Sr. (father).
Phillip shared his life with and is survived by his wife of 26 years, Lori, his son, Brandon Curnalia, two granddaughters Emery and Izabella, mother Carol Creegan, brothers Kevin (Audrianna)Curnalia, Jason Creegan, Uncle Chuck Morey, his beloved Rottweiler Judah and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Phillip will have a memorial celebration of life on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 1:00pm in the Broadus-Raines Chapel with Dr. Tim McDaniel officiating.
