Phillip Douglas “Doug” Fonner, Sr., 77, of Jacksonville, FL passed away October 31, 2018. He was born on April 11, 1941 in Newman, IL to the late William Maxwell and Velma May (Pyles) Fonner. Doug came to the area in 2001 from Villa Grove, IL and was of the Protestant faith. He was a Vietnam Veteran and proudly served his country for 20 years in the United States Army. Doug enjoyed fishing, gardening and was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Larry Fonner, Richard Fonner and Nina Kingery.
Doug is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Wilma Jane Fonner; son, Phillip Douglas Fonner, Jr.; daughter, Loretta May Brant (Richard); brother, Kenneth Fonner; sisters, Georgian Watson and Caren Sue Pruitt; grandchildren, Mackenzie Carter and Phillip Wendell; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service with full military honors will be held at 1:30pm on Monday, November 5, 2018 at Jacksonville National Cemetery.
