Richard “Rich” Montgomery Austell, Sr, age 78 of Fleming Island, FL passed away Sunday, February 9, 2020 at Orange Park Medical Center surrounded by family.
Richard served in the Navy for three years and graduated from Middle Tennessee State University. He retired from Ford Motor Company after 32 years of dedicated service to do what he loved - golf and spend time with his family. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Fleming Island and a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge.
Richard was born on October 29, 1941 in Nashville, TN to the late Curtis and Beatrice (Sheldon) Austell, Sr. Richard was preceded in death by his brother, Curtis Austell, Jr. Richard. He is survived by his wife, of 40 years, Carol Austell; his son, Richard Montgomery Austell, Jr and three daughters, Michelle Austell-Lee (Mary Ann), Joanne Holsinger (Dave) and Kathy Johnson-Gross (Rick). He is also survived by two grandchildren, Kenzi Gross (Jonathan White) and Rjay Gross and one dog, Sunny.
Richard will be remembered for his sense of humor, his love for family, friends, golf and Ford Mustangs.
Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Fleming Island, Florida, at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 15, 2020 with Father Donal Sullivan and Father Mike Pendergraft as celebrants. Celebration of Life to follow immediately at Sullivan Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Richard's name to the Wounded Warrior Project.
