On December 11, 2021, Richard “Rick” Robert Roy died unexpectedly at Baptist Medical Center South in Jacksonville, Florida at the age of 56.
Rick is survived by his wife Jill Cone Roy; his children Jessica Roy Smart (Kevin) of Nashville Georgia, Justine Roy Castranova (Cody)of Keystone Heights Florida, and James Robert Roy (Chelsie)of Middleburg Florida; his grandchildren Will, Maggie, Colten, Bella, Braelynn, Charlotte, and Emma; his mother Ann Roy of Gainesville Florida and mother-in-law Linnie Cone of Tifton Georgia; and siblings Pat Bowden (Gary) of Gainesville Florida and Sandy Burge of Melbourne Florida. He was preceded in death by his father Robert Henry Roy, father-in-law James Cyrus Cone, brother-in-law David Bennett, and brother-in-law James Burge.
Rick was born on July 23, 1965, in Providence Rhode Island. He graduated from Bucholtz High School in 1983 and went on to start a career as an entrepreneur, specializing in underground utilities.
Rick married the love of his life Jill Cone Roy on December 12, and welcomed Jessica in 1984, Justine in 1989, and James in 1992. Rick loved to fish and spent as much time outside as he could. He enjoyed working on his new boat and loved working in his shed building Adirondack chairs and furniture. He loved his children and grandchildren unconditionally. Rick loved to travel with his wife Jill and recently went on a boating trip with his family for his birthday that was adventurous and memorable for everyone. He loved making others happy and always wanted to be the Papa that saved the day. Rick loved his family more than anything and was always planning the next trip for them to all be together. He will be missed greatly by all that knew him but knowing how much he loved God, we know we will meet him again someday.
A celebration of life will be planned at a later date and the family would like all of his family and friends to attend. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to Take A Kid Fishing, Inc.
