Richard James Westenberger, 47, born on Friday, March 31, 1978, in Mineola, NY, passed away on Friday, April 4, 2025, in Gainesville, FL. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and friend.

Richard’s career as a welder and fabricator at Crom in Alachua County, FL, showcased his dedication and skill, which he approached with the same fervor he brought to his many other passions. These included, spending time with his family and friends, playing the guitar, doing anything outdoors, and working out. His infectious laugh and bright smile left a lasting impression on all who were fortunate enough to know him. He possessed a heart of gold, characterized by a profound willingness to help anyone in need, ensuring he truly never met a stranger. Richard was not only a friend to many but also a fiercely protective figure for his family.


A devoted husband to his wife, Dawnell Westenberger, Richard embraced family life with joy and enthusiasm. He cherished the time spent with his daughters—Barissa Payne, Kennedy Westenberger, and Alissa Marangoni—as well as relishing the moments spent with his granddaughter. Additionally, he is remembered fondly by his sisters, Erin Clark and Tara Nielsen-Langwald and his nieces: Maegan Roberts, Valerie Roberts, nephews: Shane Winnen, Wade Meadows, Trevor Langwald and Alex Langwald. As well as a great niece and nephew: McKenna Tosado and Yamil Tosado, Jr.

Richard was preceded in death by his grandparents, Clifford and Trudy Dailey.

His legacy of kindness, humor, and love will endure through the numerous lives he touched and the memories he created with those he held dear. His spirit will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
