Rita Mae Gedion

July 14, 1932 — May 20, 2020

Rita Mae Gedion (Kimmel) of Green Cove Springs, Florida, originally from Ferndale, Pennsylvania passed away on May 20th, 2020. She was the beloved wife of the late John Gedion and mother of Kimberly (Mathers-Giacobbe), David, and Grace (Lennon). She cherished her grandchildren Kayla, Logan, Shane, Quinn (Lennon); Samantha, John (Mathers), Jennifer (Cannavo), Rebecca (Pokoy), Gina and David Jr. (Gedion) as well as her five great-grandchildren Adriana, Christian, Jennah, Roman and Savannah.

Growing up near Johnstown, Pennsylvania Rita loved being with her family and friends. She had an infectious laugh and enjoyed music, singing and playing cards well into the night. Her family eventually moved to Philadelphia and it was there she met John. They married in 1955. They found a property outside the city and together, they constructed their home. During those early years, Rita worked at Clifton Precision to help support the family and made several lasting friendships there.

Music was always a central part of her life and she especially loved the tunes from the 40’s and 50’s. There was always a radio playing in her home and Rita would be singing along whether she was washing clothes or baking her favorite recipes. Good times for her included talking with family and friends on the back porch and enjoying a cold beer on hot summer nights.

Later in life, Rita moved to Florida. During this time she enjoyed playing bingo, watching her favorite shows on TV and crocheting. Everyone she met enjoyed her gentle spirit. Rita cherished all the friendships and relationships that she had created over the span of her eighty-seven years of life. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be dearly missed by all.

Family and friends will be celebrating the life of our beloved mom Rita in Springfield, Pennsylvania later this year (date is to be determined) In lieu of flowers, please honor her memory with a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association at https://www.alz.org
