Ronald "RC" Jones

Ronald Carey “RC” Jones, 79, of Green Cove Springs, Florida passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2024.  He was born on October 16, 1944, in Brooksville, Florida.  His family moved to Green Cove Springs when he was very young and lived on a farm just west of town.  He graduated from Clay High School in 1962.  He joined the Army Reserves and served 6 years in a military police unit.  In 1968 he began his career as a firefighter at Naval Air Station Jacksonville Fire Department.  He was promoted through the ranks and retired at the end of 1995 as an Assistant Fire Chief. He was a member of Cabul Lodge #116, Free & Accepted Masons and a member of the Morocco Shrine Temple.

He enjoyed working outdoors and was always willing to help his family with projects, big and small.  He and his wife of 41 years, Jeanne Jones, loved to travel.  They explored the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii, the Caribbean, Mexico, and Canada with their best friends on bus tours and cruise ships.  When they weren’t traveling, he loved to take Jeanne out on the boat and fish in the St. Johns River.  

He will be remembered as a wonderful Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-grandfather and friend.  He never met a stranger and always enjoyed talking to new people.  He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren, Ryan and Katelyn.

RC was preceded in death by his parents, Frank & Norma Jones; his brother, Guy Jones; his sister, Marsha Ennis; his in-laws, E. Wayne & Norma Geiger, Johnny & Ruth Rader.

He will be missed terribly by his wife, Jeanne Jones; his daughter, Jennifer Higginbotham (Earl); his son, Ronnie Wilkes (Leann); sister-in-law, Kim Clemons (Mike); his grandchildren, Katelyn Wilkes, Ryan Higginbotham, Morgan Gibson (Blake), Wyatt McDaniel; his great-granddaughter, Sadie; his nieces, Melissa Clemons-Kirby (Stephanie), Allison Caton (Spencer) and nephew, Matthew Clemons.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in RC’s name to the Food Pantry of Green Cove Springs.

The family will receive friends from 6:00pm to 7:00pm on Thursday, April 4, 2024, in the Broadus-Raines Chapel.  A graveside service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, April 5, 2024, at Hickory Grove Cemetery with Pastor Jeth Looney officiating. The family has requested Casual Attire for the services.
