Ronald H. Thornton, Sr., 75, of Green Cove Springs, FL, passed away peacefully at the Acosta-Rua Center for Caring Community Hospice in Jacksonville, FL on December 3, 2017. He was born on September 10, 1942 in Raiford, FL to parents Ralph and Melba (Sparkman) Thornton. Mr. Thornton served his country in the United States Army. He retired as a truck driver/supervisor from Food Lion in Green Cove Springs and was an active member of the NRA. He enjoyed hunting and was very passionate about his dogs, especially his best friend Bucky. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Thornton; children, Toni Thompson (Gerald), Ronald Thornton, Jr., Kimberly Stratton (Ernie), Joel Thornton, David Thornton, Michael Amason and Melissa Amason; brother, Kenneth Thornton; sisters, Gwen Umstead and Robin Martel; 9 grandchilren and 11 great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, December 7, 2017 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel with Dr. Tim McDaniel officiating. Military honors will be given at the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name to the Clay County Animal Care and Control or to Community Hospice would be appreciated.
