Russ Kendall, beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away on February 17, 2021, surrounded by family. Russ was born in Oak Ridge, Tennessee after World War II where his father worked on the Manhattan Project. He graduated from Oak Ridge High School after which he served in the U.S. Army spending 4 years with the U.S. Army Security Agency. He graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in Accounting and was employed by the U.S. Naval Audit Service for 35 years. Russ retired as Director of the Naval Audit Office at the Navy Annex in Washington, D.C. He was stationed at several locations including the Marine Corps Logistics Base, Albany, Georgia; the Naval Air Station, Jacksonville, Florida; and the Navy Yard and the Naval Annex, Washington, D.C.
Russ was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Green Cove Springs, Florida where he served on the vestry, sang with the choir, and performed audits for local Episcopal churches.
Russ was an active golfer, he enjoyed wood-working, and singing with a local community choral group, The Magnolia Singers. Russ was known for his sense of humor and kindness and he maintained both throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond S. Kendall Jr., Anne Lyon (Perry) Kendall, and granddaughter Morgan May Kendall.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ruth May Kendall and children Jeffrey S. Kendall (Julia Marie Allard Kendall), John R. Kendall (Tara Eden Scott Kendall), Rebecca L. Kendall Dicpetris (Sam K. Dicpetris), as well as grandchildren Wesley G. Ferino, Gavin Triolo, Ella Kendall, Nora Kendall, Elise Kendall, and Owen Kendall; Siblings: Kenneth R. Kendall (Katy Kendall), Rebecca B. Kendall and Nancy L. Kendall (Michael Stephens), niece, Fran Kendall, and nephews Allen Caroll and Brian Carroll.
A Celebration of Life will be held 2:00 pm, on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, in Green Cove Springs with The Rev. Amy Slater officiating.
A reception to celebrate his life will be held at Magnolia Point Golf & Country Club at 3:30 pm, Saturday, March 6. A separate celebration of his life will be held in Oak Ridge, Tennessee at a date to be determined.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Green Cove Springs, Florida or to the charity of your choice.
