Russell “Russ” R. Green, age 76, of Green Cove Springs, Fl. passed away peacefully on December 19, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was born on June 1, 1947 in Peoria, Illinois to Francis and Ruth Green. Russ was preceded in death by his father Francis E. Green Sr., mother Ruth E. Green, and his Brother Francis E. Green Jr. He is survived by his wife Linda Green, his four children Glenn Green (Griselle), Kenneth Green (Anna Alodia), Rachel Green (Michael Villavicencio) & Melissa Jones (Darin), his ten grandchildren Miguel Cabrera, Gage Green (Emily Perez), Victor Cabrera II, Marco Cabrera, Nyah Cabrera (Jamey Boss), AllyAnnah Jones, Olive Ruth Green, Eliu Rodriguez (Violet), Valeria Weaver, Favian Mangual, and 3 great-grandchildren Laila Cabrera, River Weaver & Levi Green who will of course carry on the Green name. Russell graduated in 1966 from Peoria High School. After high school he entered the United States Air Force Academy at Lackland AFB where he received advanced training in aircraft maintenance at Sheppard AFB, Texas. He went overseas in December of 1966 and was stationed at Mac-tan AFB in the Philippines. He returned to the States in 1968 to finish his time in the service until 1970. He then moved to Illinois to work at Caterpillar, and he was also a car mechanic. Then, he moved his family to Jacksonville, Florida in 1978. Russ worked as a mechanic. He was always working hard to support his family. His other forms of work were as an asphalt laborer and a truck driver before he finally retired in 2009. He was a kind and loving man who would give you the shirt off his back. He enjoyed spending time with his family and most importantly his grandchildren. They were most important to him. He loved being outdoors working on cars, motorcycles, and his semi-truck. He also loved building things including a house with his dad in his early years. He was an avid motorcycle rider and loved to ride his Harley Davidson up until he passed it off to his grandson Marco. He will be dearly missed but never forgotten. A funeral service to celebrate Russell’s life will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel with Pastor Marc Swarthout officiating. The family will receive friends in the chapel from 10:00am until service time.
