Franklin E. Chaney “Rusty”, age 76, of Green Cove Springs, Florida entered into Heaven on Sunday, June 4, 2023. He was born to Paul and Bette Chaney on December 16, 1946 in Green Cove Springs, Florida. He was raised in Green Cove Springs and attended Clay High School before joining the US Marines. After serving in Vietnam, he returned to Green Cove and started his life in construction.
At the age of 21, he married Joenell (Meek) McKinley. They were blessed with Paul “PJ”, then Tony, and several years later Paula.
Later in life, Rusty remarried to Sharon Patria and was blessed with her three children Carla, James and Jolene.
Throughout all this time, he built the family business Chaney’s Construction and Roofing which has been taken over by his son PJ. Rusty was always willing to help when needed and grew his business by obtaining commercial properties which allowed him to semi-retire although those that knew him well knew he would never stop tinkering.
Survivors include his brother John “Dusty” Chaney and his sister Veronica “Ricki” Montoya; loving children: Paul “PJ” Chaney (Kim), Tony Chaney (Angel), Paula Hargis (Josh), Carla Coleman (Todd), James Angove, Jolene Nicks (Ray). Grandchildren: Christian (Shelby), A.J., Tyler, Carson, Kailey, Joshua, Cameron, Chaney, Reagan, Remington, Cody, Ashley, Robert, Holden, Kyle (Jamie), James Jr (Barbara), and Damian. Also, his companion and best friend, Joenell McKinley.
A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 10, 2023 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel. A reception will follow at 7670 River Ave, Fleming Island, FL 32003.
