Sara Janie Craven

January 26, 1930 — September 22, 2021

In the early morning hours of September 22, 2021, Sara Janie Craven took her last breath in this life and was escorted by ministering angels into the waiting arms of Jesus. She was 91.

A lifelong Green Cove Springs resident, she was born to Eugene and Jane E. Daniels on January 26, 1930.

When she was eighteen years old, she married Vonlehe Craven and together they raised four children over the next forty-one years until his death in March of 1989.

She was a member of Etoniah Baptist Church in Palatka, FL and loved her fellow members and the Lord.

Sara was an expert seamstress and was always making clothes for her children, grandchildren, and gowns for special occasions. She enjoyed gardening and canned many fruits and vegetables during every growing season. She also enjoyed the arts and painted many landscapes in her leisure.

Sara loved gospel music and frequently attended local blue grass shows with her cousin Edith Knowles and often accompanied her brother to Nashville, TN to visit the Grand Old Opry. She will be remembered by many for her sweet spirit and loving kindness freely given to all.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Vonlehe; son, Bennie; grandson, Raymond; and daughter, Dolores Ann. Also by three brothers, Eugene, Floyd and Andrew and two sisters, Barbara and Eunice.

She is survived by her two daughters, Gloria Elswick and Linda Jolley and three sons-in-law, Tim Elswick, Alvin Jolley and David Mills. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, six great great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 am – 11:00 am, Monday, September 27, 2021 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel with funeral services starting at 11:00 am with Pastor David Mills and Senior Pastor Ralph Cobb officiating. Graveside service to follow at Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery.

Due to the on-going pandemic, the family requests that masks be worn during the visitation and service.
